Days 4-6

Day 4

OK, I don't remember exactly the days, haha. But I think I decided to give up, went to sleep early (11ish?) and to my surprise and dismay woke up at 5am! My body has adapted to 6 hours a night!

Took an OK nap in the afternoon, around the right time. I think I was pretty sleepy, if the lack of memory is any indication. Vague recollection of not being able to function properly in the evening. Luckily Kev was here <3

Day 5

Went to sleep late, maybe 1:20 or so, and sadly woke up at 6:30 thanks to roommate's alarm. :( At least the puppy was there to keep me company. She's a total scaredy-cat though.

Took a nap around 1:30, felt OK. Bouts of sleepiness, but not absolutely horrible I don't think. At any rate, I was able to write half of my paper in the evening, so I must have been more functional.

Day 6

Slept a little before 1, automatically woke up around 6:30 or so but slept a bit more just for good measure. Took a nap around 1:40. Slept lighter this time, but overall I don't feel that tired.

I have noticed that food makes a huge difference on this sleep schedule. If I don't keep myself well-fed, I start feeling sleepy and cranky right before I get hungry (about when the sugar boost runs out??). So the diet may have more to do with how I'm feeling, as opposed to the sleep.

It's the weekend again! Now I can conduct my experiment in peace. (:

Addendum: I had forgotten how good classical sounds on circumaural headphones. Panasonic RP-HTX7, I am never leaving you again. <333

Day 3

Napped today from 1:10-1:30. Felt better than usual. The 20-min nap felt almost like 40 mins, or an hour! Also seem to have more energy right now (the evening). MAYBE IT'S WORKING.

Woke up at 7 sharp, as usual. Puppy peed because I took too long taking her out. TT Wsa very tired in the morning, and probably flunked the EE42 midterm. Oh well!

I look forward to seeing how this experiment plays out in the next few days. (:

Days 1 & 2

Day 1

Slept for 20 minutes at around 1 or so. Woke up at 7 pretty promptly, I think I'm already adjusted to that from doing it every day. Tired in the evening.

Day 2

Was a bit cold at night, fixed it with my fuzzy blanket. I wonder if that will help me get better quality sleep as well.

Felt pretty good all morning, started to wane around lunchtime. Slept for 20 minutes on the drive home (went to Saratoga), 1:30 or so. Felt pretty good in the afternoon, started to crash around 8pm. Was fed caffeine by dad in the afternoon - that may have had something to do with it.

Watch me fail my midterm tomorrow because I'm too sleep deprived to study for it. Wooooooo!

I have been getting such bad sleep the past week that I figure now is as good a time as any to start a polyphasic sleep experiment. After all, the whole point of the adjustment phase is that the sleep-deprivation forces you into REM sleep faster, right? (:

Here's my goal, the Everyman 3:

4-7am (3hr core)
1-2pm (20min nap)
5-6pm (20min nap)
11pm-12am (20min nap)

The naps are meant to be taken anytime within that one hour time block. I suck at sticking to schedules, so I figure some flexibility will help. I also suck at determination, so I am NOT going to jump into this immediately. I think first I'm going to go for 6 hours + siesta, so something like:

1-7am (6hr core)
1-2pm (20min nap)

And see how that works out. If it does, then I'll be cutting down to 5 or 4 hours for the core, and increasing the nap frequencies. I'm also going to follow the internet's advice and stop reading in bed.

In other news, I got a puppy!!! She's really cute, but I'm too sleep deprived to appreciate her. More on that later... right now I gotta go buy a dog crate. (:
