Yesterday, 10/16/07, we had a substitute in English!

ADELA: Oh wonderful German lady, teach me some German!
SUB: Guten tag, my friend!
ADELA: Bitte, etwas zu essen?
SUB: Nein.
CLASSMATES: .____. what did you just say?
ADELA: [beggar voice] "Please ma'am, something to eat?"
CLASSMATES: /fallover

The whole period, alas, consisted of either writing in a composition book or (supposedly) reading The Scarlet Letter. Excepting 10 minutes at the beginning of class, which was given over to... "discussion."

FRIEND: ...of The Scarlet Letter? ;;
ADELA: Rain or Se7en?
FRIEND: ...of Korean boys! ♥♥
ADELA: b^^

(SUB: I am German woman. I see nothing and hear nothing.)

Adela got absolutely no work done. :) Although Adela's class, being wonderfully diligent, did attempt to work without her.

ADELA: So, what do you think of freakish devil children? I think I would name mine Zigwattrelian.
FRIEND: ...Zigwuhwah?
ADELA: Zigwattrelian!
FRIEND: Something is wrong with this girl.
ADELA: Ziggy for short! Like Ziggy Ziggy. Do you know Ziggy? He leads a saaaad sad life. He cracks open fortune cookies and the the only thing they fortunes say to him is "ouch!"
FRIEND: Oi, shut up. I can't concentrate.
ADELA: Oh. okay.

30 seconds later...

FRIEND: I still can't concentrate with you staring at me like that!
ADELA: But- I was absolutely silent!
FRIEND: ... ...
ADELA: Fine, I'll look this way. Better?
FRIEND: Ye- ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh-
[a minute later]
FRIEND: -no.
ADELA: ... ...
FRIEND: I'm sorry, your mere presence distracts me.
ADELA: ... ... ... [remaining dutifully silent]
FRIEND: I dunno. Your- your- existence. It bothers me.
ADELA: ...my existence bothers you.
FRIEND: Yes!
PERSON IN THE FRONT ROW: [turns around] Yes!
ADELA: ... ... ... ...
ADELA: Do you want me to go work outside? ;;

...so, Adela was kicked out of ditched English class. But not strictly, since she ditched class in order to better focus on classwork! Sort of. And German lady sub doesn't care at all. So she went off to visit band and other classes in session, and attempted to work a bit (and actually got a bit done, which was more than she'd achieved in the classroom), and visited random teachers and in general did not disturb her English classmates! Yet, when the period ended-

ADELA: I return to retrieve my stuff!
FRIEND: Welcome back! I spent the whole time after you left playing hangman!
ADELA: ......

Obviously, Adela's non-presence doesn't help generate productivity any more than her presence does.

In today's news, physics huuuuuurts.

Also, orchestra? Second violins need to stop rushing. Jeezus. We did the circle exercise for Molly on the Shore, and while Jeff + Melody actually held up pretty well to the initial viola melody, every time we hit the second violin melodies they rushed like crazy! And without Mr. Boitz conducting we ended up with an over half-measure split. I mean, listen, goddammit. TT It's just, I don't think everyone's accustomed enough to orchestra playing, they don't notice when they're rushing and they get worse and worse, and while we do have a little of that ability to, when we're off, regroup at some point, it's... not close. We're not slightly split by a fraction of a beat and regain ourselves on a heavy downbeat, we're half a measure apart and not noticing for several measures, and then taking 10 measures before we vaguely pull back together. And that's only about 50% of the time, the other 50% we fall apart outright. I mean, I know freshman year I was worse than most of our current players, and couldn't hear a thing and couldn't tell when we were rushing or even listen to the melody of the other sections, but now that I can, it's painful.

I miss 5th period orchestra. :(

edit: So there was no Japanese today, because apparently when we called our teacher she was in the Emergency Room. !!! It seems she has asthma. And then she caught a cold. one plus one equals three.

So then, here's a little bit of traffic updates for highway 85 around 6-7 o'clock...

85N? totally clear. v. few cars. zip! nada! nil!

85S? CARS CRAMMED INTO EVERY NOOK AND CRANNY. traffic jaaaaaaaam.

Adela's house -> De Anza College = 85N. Thus, by reverse logic, De Anza College -> Adela's house = 85S.

ziiiiiiiiiiiiiiing.

So Adela was stuck waiting around on campus, as were most other fellow classmates. Which wasn't too bad, since she had people to talk to. And her classmates are really funny.

FRIEND1: Everyone thinks I'm a middle-schooler... /woe...

(FRIEND1 is college sophomore)

FRIEND2: It's ok. People think I'm 18 sometimes. /woe...

(FRIEND2 is a graduate student)

FRIEND1: But people think I'm fourteen sometimes! Fourteen! Ahhhhhhhhh~
ADELA: :3

FRIEND1: sighhhhhhhh. I used to have long hair.
FRIEND2/ADELA: uh huh?
FRIEND1: And people thought I was a girl. T___T
FRIEND2/ADELA: [both crack up hopelessly]
FRIEND1: No, I'm serious! When I'm working, people come and they ask me, "Can I have this, miss? Some of that please, miss. Yes, miss." That's why I cut it short.
FRIEND2: [aside] He wants to be manly...
ADELA: There's nothing wrong with being a pretty boy... XD
FRIEND1: [twitch] Yes, yes there is.
FRIEND2/ADELA: ?
FRIEND1: Once I was working, and this Mexican, he came up to me and tried to ask me out on a date...
[ADELA and FRIEND2 dive beneath a bush to smother their laughter]
FRIEND1: T________T

So Adela, Friend1, and Friend2 were going to wander to Jamba Juice nearby, but then they changed their mind because

FRIEND1: It's so cold! Too cold for Jamba Juice.
ADELA: 'kay, is there a Starbucks nearby?

So they went to Starbucks. Except Friend2 didn't go, coz Starbucks wasn't on the way. But Friend1 walked Adela there, and then - after complaining that it was too cold for Jamba Juice - he gets an iced coffee. =.= odd child.

Anyway, onto homework!

Oh almost forgot, in a side note (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] lovelessbirdie for reminding me), one of my (ironically) least favorite poems managed to win second place at some contest? grand prize of... $15! yay.
