job hunting
Sep. 10th, 2012 01:14 amis so nerve wracking! I mean, logically I know it's no big deal, but every time I walk into a restaurant and ask for the front-of-house manager, my heart starts fluttering a weeny bit, and every time the manager is actually THERE, my brain goes "oh shit".
Things I learned today:
1. Cheaper places near campus also tend to have more brusque staff. The classier, slightly more upscale places near Dwight and Shattuck seem to have more warm and professional staff.
2. I really want to become more fluent in Japanese. At least as conversable as my current level of Korean.
3. There is no substitute for getting out there and doing what you want to do. None.
I also really want to help reform the EALC club ethic, but I want to do it without alienating people too much, which means it's going to be a slooow step-by-step process. But language exchanges with the EALC department teachers would be awesome! I think I would get a lot more out of it than our current language exchanges.
In other news, I got a lovely plant from Ranch 99 for my desk. It's sitting next to me now and looks super happy^^
