Apr. 9th, 2008 07:51 pmDear Livejournal,
Today we visited Yale. It has a magnificent campus reminiscent of the description of Hogwarts castle, and there are trees! And grass! Everything is very, very large, and their library is built like a cathedral.
My only problem with that is that it is, after all, a library. What's the point of building a cathedral that's not a cathedral and secretly a library?
Other than that the campus is exquisite. I love it.
The only issue I have is with the people. They are all... well, very intelligent (that's not my problem with them). My very first impression of them was an emanation of rich-kid aura, but it's not that, because they are all (as aforesaid) intelligent and capable and mature enough, I think, not to be annoying about it. I mean, they're all going to grow up and get great jobs become successful and there is nothing whatsoever wrong with that.
What they're missing... some sort of edge. They're all so similar. Boring. Well, I wouldn't say that because I'm sure they have a varied student population and people of various interests, but they're too... moderate for my tastes. Conservative. No one bizarre, no one crazy... how can you be, in the midst of such a beautiful campus? It's almost out of place.
怎麼說呢... 太乖了, 不好玩.
(啦啦啦 有够呆的. 我不要當乖小孩 =/)
NYU students, on the other hand, come straight out of roaring raw Manhattan. They've all got... character. ;p What the hell, our tour guide was really weird. He's totally an emo, at least he dressed like one, had that half-gelled hairstyle and tight jeans--then when introducing us to the dorm wardrobe he was all, "Yeah, amazing how much you can fit into those things; I personally own a hundred pairs of jeans but they all fit, no sweat."
My parents want me to be like the good, stable Yale kids. I want to be like the weirdos. T___T 對不起啦...
Seriously, if I had to choose between NYU and Yale, I don't know which one I would go to. The atmosphere at NYU appeals to me, but compared to Yale, of course, its campus is dingy next-to-nothing... seriously, I love Yale's campus. If you compare it to Europe, of course, 's just a measly chip off the old block, but much nicer than most anything here in the States. And I'd have access to more resources and the giant underground library and good cafeteria food and the whole thing'd just be so comfortable.
Which is totally stupid, because Yale's totally a better school, right? I mean, comparatively it'd be on the first tier while NYU's probably no more than second tier. This shouldn't even be a question.
I mean, I can see myself being happy @ Yale. And I'd probably grow to find NYU students 寒酸 (haggard? poor? drab?) and forget about them and love Yale for being Yale and awesome, but... eh. :x
What to do?
Love,
Adela
PS. Of course, this is silly because I don't even know what schools will accept me. lawl. Just dream and it'll come true!
PPS. LOL Vienna Teng has spread to Germany, [edit: gay fanart warning, in case you're not into that type of stuff] and is being quoted by someone in kurofai fandom. That's pretty funny.
