Apr. 8th, 2008 08:58 pmDear Livejournal,
Today we were going to visit Yale, but our rental car got towed.
Did you know that "tow" sounds exactly the same as "to steal" in Chinese? :O
So anyway...
I slept a lot, and ate a lot, and shopped with my mom.
Macy's has this... atmosphere. Slightly overheated, a bit stuffy (from the masses of people), laden with perfume--it makes you a bit dizzy and puts you to sleep. Gradually, of course. Over the space of about two hours. You don't realize it until you step outside again. In any case, the Macy's here is nine stories high. Impressive.
Finished The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime by Mark Haddon and Memories of My Melancholy Whores by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Marquez really does like to write about old men in love. This protagonist isn't even a leisurely seventy; he's ninety. >>; Fairly short read, for Marquez.
TCIotDitN is told from the POV of an autistic kid (only mildly). I really like this book, the POV is very interesting and helps you to understand autistic people a lot more, and the plot was v. strong and totally surprised me, which was nice because I hate predictable books. The kid sets himself on the quest of finding out who killed his neighbor's dog (with a garden fork oO;) and it is, in a sense, murder mystery, but much more refreshing (and also funny) than the typical mystery novel. Oh, also, it involves dogs (albeit dead), which is automatically a plus.
In other news, I like the shoes here.
Love,
Adela
