since I feel so awake...
Dec. 10th, 2006 01:38 amyay so concert today~ (or yesterday, whatever~)
I must say, it was pretty nerve-wrecking.
GUYSGUYSGUYS GUESS HOW STUPID I WAS.
!!!!!!!!!!
I forgot my cello. XD;
DON'T SAY ANYTHING, I promise you anything that can be said has already been said. _ _;; Many times over. but. ahahah. *dork* Saw mousey kid with his violin and went *ping* cello? cello. cello?! CELLO!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH~
Rushed home and back, was obviously late and was v. v. distraught because Yair is so strict about lateness to rehearsals and stuff, and on the way there was a rainbow and I wished really really hard on it that I would NOT be humiliated (kk don't even get me started on the times I walk in late to rehearsal ><) and it turns out everything went well and I wasn't!! ^o^ (humiliated, that is. v. late, yes.) yay for rainbow wishes. All of mine usu. come true~
ANYWAY. 3 hours of rehearsal is pretty grueling work, but not much worse than the usual and nicer because it's right before a concert and he doesn't get super nitpicky because anything he has reason enough to get super nitpicky about, at this stage, is too late to be saved. XD;
Had lunch with Jocelyn! And two random kids whom I don't know named Jeremy and Simon. I BOUGHT A SANDWICH FOR 99 CENTS. except it wasn't a sandwich. It was like el cheapo hamburger without ham but a slice of ham-like chicken. but pearl milk tea from Hydration is good. :)
So. the concert.
We walk on stage, bow, all that stuff, sit down and shuffle about for a while, wait, eventually Richard (concert master) comes and bid us tune. So the brass blow their A, winds tune, they blow A for low strings, I play my A...
AND IT IS FRICKIN' FLAT. T____T
It wasn't just a bit flat, like how when you normally tune? Noooooo. IT WAS SOMEWHERE BETWEEN AN A FLAT AND A G. T____T Nothing the fine tuners can handle. So Josh, my stand partner, gives me this look that's almost a o__O wince because when you play a non-pitch ugly inbetween Ab and G note while everyone plays an A, it is very hearable. And then while Yair walks on stage and everyone's clapping and bowing, I'm frantically tuning with the BIG KNOB. Not the fine tuners, because it's too far gone. BIG KNOB. BIG KNOB BIG KNOB BIG KNOB SCARY BIG KNOBS. You know what would've happened if I'd snapped my string?!?! AAAAH omg crazy nerve-wreck. And I get it to the right pitch but I can't get the knob to STAY. Because cello knobs have a tendency to be stupid like that. And eventually I have to give it to Josh and he manages to get it to stay at roughly an A, though still a bit flat, and then Yair turns around and the concert starts.
_ _;; tuned it proper during intermission, butbut. bejeebus. not cool.
As to the actual music, the horns FAILED us. I am very disappointed. In rehearsal that one spot they came in, it was so wimpy and unsure of themselves I winced. And the entire thing, they never got that phrase right once. Not once. And Yair scolded them and THEN they played it, ONCE that was semidecent, still sucked but could pass, but in the concert it just. didn't happen. *cries* It made me sad.
Daniel Paik's solo owned the stage, though. Even with the failed horns. :3 GO CELLO~
