Had maybe an hour long conversation today with curly-haired tall entity the umpteenth that lives in the house. We played with tarot cards. 'Twas fun. I am superstitious after all, or I want to be. But who doesn't?

Soul - Futility (Seven of Swords)
Mind - Sorrow (Three of Swords)
Body - Peace (Two of Swords)

POCKET FULL OF SUNSHINE. So I'm perfectly fine on the outside while severely screwed up on the inside. Sounds about right. I wish I could have more faith in the world, but sometimes I just don't.

(To be fair, I, like Debra, tend to only post nowadays when I'm feeling especially moody, so please take everything I say with a grain of salt.)

It's not even about faith or not faith. It's the transience. How fast everything moves. Time flies so fast nowadays. I meet these people, and before I have a chance to get to know them well, well like you knew your childhood playmates, well like you wasted hours together being utterly stupid, I meet them and they're gone. People who could be good friends, would be good friends, but life moves so fast and we're all so busy and we all have so much to do, once they're not "conveniently" around (e.g. live in the same house, live in the same dorm, be in the same class), they're just gone. So many people whom you briefly brush by and never see again. It makes me emotionally sick. I keep having these moments that I would like to keep forever, that I would like to keep until it's not fun anymore and you're sick of it and move on to something else, but they're over in an instant and I'm left by myself in an empty room, stretched out on a couch and mulling on a moment that's no longer there. Are they only beautiful because they're transient? Are we, sick creatures, only able to appreciate something once it's gone?

Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
For nothing gold can stay.

On that note, a meme from [livejournal.com profile] cougarfang:

The Rules - Don’t take too long to think about it. Fifteen authors (poets included) who have always influenced you and will always stick with you. List the first 15 you can recall in no more than 15 minutes, and they don’t have to be listed in order of relevance to you.

1. Robert Frost
2. Gabriel Garcia Marquez
3. Sarah Rees Brennan
4. Alexandre Dumas
5. Orson Scott Card (only one book, really)
6. Antoine du Saint-Exupery
7. Phillip Pullman
8. Gary Paulsen
9. J.K. Rowling (ehehe)
10. Dylan Thomas
11. Ray Bradbury
12. Jin Yong
13. Am out of ideas... Hans Christian Andersen?
15. I must be missing someone important... JRR Tolkien (but not really)

edit: re: curly-haired entity

today brought me back to [livejournal.com profile] behindpyramids's coming of age post. because. everyone has so many issues and everyone is so broken and the world is so fucked up but at the same time it's not and somehow it keeps going anyway. she captured it better than i ever could. that's who should be up on my list. off to work

 You are:

  • moderately expressed intuitive personality

  • moderately expressed feeling personality

  • moderately expressed perceiving personality

Looks like I haven't changed either. Both in the personality type and in the fact that I've always been exactly 50-50 for Thinking vs. Feeling. So I'm never quite ENFP, rather I'm an ENF/TP. Too bad Jung doesn't do cross-analyses.

As always, somewhere on the borderline between the two.

I keep getting tagged. So here you are. :O

see cut! )

edit: hup I forgot the rules.

Once you've been tagged, you write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you, it's because I want to know more about you.

tagged... the 6 people who tagged me, chatgroup kids (even though I know Deb's not gonna do it -.-), and other select people from FB

In other news, I am growing to rather like 3gatsu no Lion, also known as March Comes in As a Lion, BWYS's latest joint project with SCX-scans. It's the most recent work by Umino Chika, the creator of (?) Honey and Clover, and for a wikipedia summary:

The series is set in Tokyo, following the everyday life of a 17-year old shōgi player, Rei (also known as Zero).[1] While describing the series, Umino noted that she based the setting of March Comes in Like a Lion on research she conducted herself, whereas in her earlier and most famous work, Honey and Clover, she had already been familiar with its setting.[2]

The protagonist Rei is a 17-year old professional shōgi player, who lives by himself, not having a real family, and does not go to school and has scarcely any friends. Among his acquaintances is a family, which consists of a young woman, Akari, and two young girls, Momo and Hinata, and who also keep a numerous number of cats.

Covers the general premise, yes. Other sources describe it as "life-ish seinen, with strong monologues and reflections by Rei." It's very philosophical. I didn't like the artwork at all at first, but... it grew on me.

So that ends my little sales pitch of the day. Hopefully if this becomes popular enough some American publisher will pick it up and there'll be legitimate releases in the US.

New Year's meme! Ripped from... myself. Last year.

Post the first sentence of the first entry of each month of this past year.

2004-2007 of my livejournal life are over here.

2008 as follows )

In other news, I think that may have been the only chatgroup sleepover where I didn't actually... sleepover? Or have I not before, I don't remember anymore.

Seeing people was nice. Eliza looks the same. Louis looks the same except he says the f word a lot more than he used to. Kevin looks the same only his obsession changed from pikachu to thundercunt. Debra looks in fact like nothing at all because she DID NOT GO because she is the lamest person on earth.

Del and Jiji and Zano don't seem to have changed much. Neither have Kero and Mel, but I see them around on a regular basis so that may not count. Joe is less invisible than I remember. Improvement? Not sure if that'd be on his part or mine.

Oh, Del's house is definitely not the same. It is large! And with basement. Reminds me of Tiff's house.

Tiff, by the way, did not go, but I saw her ~3 hours ago at the post office because we both happened to be mailing our music supplements last minute. harharhar.

Found this as I was browsing around.

This is not for my facebook, although I am aware the note will be imported. It is LJ only. I don't know if anonymous commenting is even possible on facebook.

Here goes:

Post anything that you want here, and post it anonymously. A story, a secret, a confession, a fear, a love... anything. Make sure to post anonymously and honestly. Post as many times as you'd like. Then, put this in your LJ to see what others have to say.

IP-logging is off.

It's almost midnight. I'm sleepy.

Just. I have lesson tomorrow, and I pretty much haven't practised all week, and I really need to practise tonight and tomorrow before lesson if I don't want to DIE which is probably, you know, a tad more important than sleep, and it's not like I have anyone to blame except myself.

Also, this whole Stanford Arts Supplement thing is driving me crazy. So Stanford's bloody deadline is a month earlier than all of the other colleges. Who knew?

I wish my mom wouldn't be in such a crabby temper. See, this is why I didn't want her to help, because she gets like this, and. blah.

Maybe I'll just forget sleeping tonight and take care of all this shitty stuff so I never have to worry about it again. I refuse to go through this during winter break.

Oh right, cello first.

I tag Mel, Kero, and... the next 14 people who read this. Have fun meme-ing!

In other other news, I finished watching season 1 of Code Geass today and it reminded me very strongly of that Hou Wen-Yong book, with the snowballing effect and stuff. No, I lied, I didn't think of that book until typing the sentence just now, but the idea of things spinning larger and larger until it forces a way on you definitely echoed somewhere.

Lelouch reminds me a bit of Light.

Character development = ♥
Plot = ♥ but depressing.
Character design = ♥♥♥! (go CLAMP~)

I think I have destroyed my sight staring so long @ computer screen. Bet you anything tonight I dream strange dreams about mecha robots and boys with purple eyes.

Today! easy day. easy classes, general fun.

...somebody I mayhaps should have asked out to lunch but didn't :o lost opportunity? no names disclosed as too many bloody random people from my school read this blog. without telling me, to boot.

anyway I made up for it coz~ ! arashi and wendy came visiting! so me and them and a couple more fobs (Karen & Christy & Christy's friend who didn't actually come; also is that how Christy spells her name) went off to Q-cup &were fobby.

yeah so I am slowly being converted into a fob. First, there's the Chinese thing, which pwns most fobby looking ABCs who can't speak worth sh** (not counting the ones that actually moved from China/Taiwan/Hong Kong etc etc). On top of that:

1. I have a Death Note bag

2. &a really fobby haircut

3. I go out to lunch w/a group of really fobby looking people

4. @ Q-cup//Chinese takeout

5. and we order... in Chinese.

ANDAND. THE WORST ONE: I am starting to talk with a faint fobbish accent. not the retarded one that everyone laughs at, but the one that you can't really place and just sounds randomly... Asian. actually I think it may be faintly Korean.

... ...

I had something else to say.

I forgot.

will update later if I remember.

Cambridge going good. I've been in a state of perpetual happiness since the preview of the magazine came out - I saw it, squealed my head off, then sat there and stared at it dreamily, stroking its spine. For the rest of the day, every time someone mentioned the word magazine I made happy little choking noises and/or burst out into song. My friends were very amused.

They were less amused when they woke up today and I was still doing the same thing. But I mean - the REAL magazine is here. Complete with the missing 3 pages at the end! That is even more squee-worthy.

In short, I was in a state which my Psychology teacher may have diagnosed as mania (shut up, it's an actual term, bipolar people have it), characterised by symptoms such as rapid speech, racing thoughts, decreased need for sleep, euphoria, impulsiveness, grandiosity, and increased interest in goal-directed activities.

...yeah. That's amazingly accurate, actually. It's not v. much a bad thing, except that hyper-elation can lead to impaired judgment and taking unnecessary risks. But I've mostly just been singing and dancing around. I suppose doing that in the middle of English streets is a bit dangerous, as their drivers STEP ON THE GAS PEDAL when they see pedestrians in front of them, but aside from that all is well and good.

now for a steampunk quiz! )

So I am a technologically hip explorer. That sounds fun. Though for the second test I was v. v. close to getting Ragamuffin (my adventurous vs. playful stats were quite close) so I may be sort of both.

Let's go STEAMPUNKIN'!!!

edit: oh I forgot to mention, our CW class went punting together and I am officially the best puntress in the class. (puntress. like hunter and huntress except punter and puntress.) and I'm not kidding, the class agrees with me. HA. PUNT PWNT

The Big Read reckons that the average adult has only read 6 of the top 100 books they've printed. Well let's see.

1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
2) Italicize those you intend to read.
3) Underline the books you LOVE.
4) Reprint this list in your own LJ so we can try and track down these people who've read 6 and force books upon them ;-)
